Morocco's Amadeus Institute invited by UN to participate in discussion on promoting peace in Africa

United Nations - Morocco's Amadeus Institute was invited by the UN to take part in a discussion on making recommendations to improve UN support to Africa's efforts in conflict resolution and sustainable development and peace, the UN said.

     Amadeus Institute, organizer of Medays, was invited as a powerhosue of ideas in Africa to participate in this collective thinking and ask its African network to participate as well, Francesc Claret, of the office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) told MAP.

    The OSAA is mandated by the UN General Assembly to review the report of the Secretary-General prepared in 1998 on the causes of conflict and promoting peace and sustainable development in Africa, to take stock of the progress achieved over the past decade and submit further recommendations for the next decade to improve UN support to African efforts and strengthen the capacity of African states and institutions.

    This discussion, led by the OSAA, is meant to be as inclusive as possible. All UN Agencies are involved, as well as Member States, African institutions, academicia and civil society.

    Brahim Fassi Fihri and Mekki Lahlou, respectively president and vice-president of the Institute Amadeus, met, last week at the UN headquarters in New York, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Sheick Sidi Diarra, Special Advisor on Africa and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
