Morocco adheres to all efforts aimed at re-launching peace process in Middle East, diplomatUnited Nations - Morocco's Ambassador to the UN Mohammed Loulichki on Wednesday reiterated the Kingdom's adherence to all international efforts aimed at re-launching the peace process in the Middle East.
"Stemming from its commitment to work towards peace in the Middle East, Morocco adheres as a member of the Arab League's Monitoring Committee on the Arab peace initiative to all international efforts aimed at re-launching the process of negotiations" to find a lasting and comprehensive solution to the Middle East issue, Loulichki said at a meeting of the Security Council. +Reason should prevail+ The North African country, given the responsibilities of HM King Mohammed VI as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee "draws the attention of the international community to the serious situation in the holy city and other occupied Palestinian territories, while calling for reason in resolving the issue of Al Quds in its multiple dimensions,” he added. “Our great concern about the serious developments facing the Palestinian issue and its impact on security and stability in the Middle East is only matched by our deep conviction that the peace process is an irreversible option and its success is a necessity imposed by the common interest of all peoples of the region to live in peace, harmony and cooperation,” Loulichki said. The diplomat underlined that “Morocco follows with consideration the efforts of U.S. President Barak Obama and his Special Envoy Senator Mitchell to overcome the difficulties impeding the peace process.” + Withdrawal from Arab territories, a necessity + “This just and comprehensive solution cannot be achieved without Israel’s withdrawal from Arab territories, including the Golan and the occupied part of Lebanon,” he said. With regard to the holy city, Loulichki recalled the continued Israeli policy of Judaizing the occupied territories through ownership of land in Arab neighborhoods and its determination to build new housing units and facilities as well as illegal settlements. These provocative unilateral actions aimed at altering the demographic and legal status of the holy city and change its identity in flagrant violation of international law, which stalls any progress towards achieving the two-state solution, he said.
