Princess Lalla Meryem chairs celebration of Convention on the Rights of the Child 20th anniversary

Marrakech - Princess Lalla Meryem, chairwoman of the National Observatory on Child Rights (ONDE), chaired, Friday in Marrakech, the ceremony of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

    Speaking on this occasion, the ONDE chief executive officer, Said Raji, highlighted that children's rights in Morocco have become a social project that encompasses associations' initiatives and government's plans.

    Raji said that the celebration of the anniversary is an important phase in the promotion and defense of children's rights, and an opportunity to boost the participative action aiming at enhancing programs devised for children, and benefit from the civil society input.

    For her part, Social Development Minister, Nouzha Skalli, said that Morocco's ratification of the UN convention on the rights of the child is an historical event, underlining HM the King's commitment and instructions to the successive governments which helped in materializing the Kingdom's international commitments related to the promotion of children's status.

    Skalli underscored the national initiative for human development which contributed to improving the conditions of children from poor families, adding that she takes great pride in the national action plan for children (2006-2015) themed "a Morocco worthy of its children."
