Rural children's situation, improving significantly - Minister

Rabat - The situation of children in rural areas is improving significantly thanks to several national programs aiming at facilitating access to basic social services, said here on Tuesday, Minister of Social Development, Family and Solidarity Nouzha Skalli.

   Speaking at a question time at the House of Advisors, Skalli said that these national programs contributed to extending water distribution networks and rural electrification to cover 96 % in 2009,  in addition to building roads and promoting social security and access to medical care.
    
   The minister, who recalled that 44 % of Moroccans live in rural areas, shed light on efficient programs implemented in 403 rural communes with the aim of reducing social disparities, as part of Morocco's large scale anti-poverty strategy, the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH). 

   Skalli also pointed to various programs aiming to protect children against violence in rural areas.
