About 5 million Moroccans benefited from anti-poverty initiative in 2009

Rabat - A total of 4.86 million Moroccan people have benefited from the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), launched by HM King Mohammed VI in mid-2005, the Initiative’s national coordinator said.

The 19,800 INDH projects enabled to "improve the living conditions of the population and boost local economy as part of a participatory, partnership-based approach," Nadira El Guermaï told the daily "Al Bayane".

More than four years after its launch, the INDH resulted in a tangible improvement in living conditions, with poverty rate declining from 14% to 9% at national level, and from 36% to 21% in rural areas targeted by the initiative.
