Several representatives of European institutions favour autonomy proposal, former polisario leaderBrussels - Several representatives of European and Belgian institutions favour Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, said on Friday former polisario founding member, Ahmedou Ould Souilem, who returned recently to Morocco.
Several Belgian and European MPs and officials have hailed the positive momentum initiated by the Moroccan plan, Ould Souilem said at a meeting with the foreign press at the end of a visit to Brussels (February 2-5). "The Belgian and European officials have shown great interest in Morocco's message of peace and cooperation with Europe and the entire international community," he added. "This proposal does not only meet the political and socioeconomic aspirations of the population of the southern provinces but also creates conditions of stability and security to address threats facing the region," Ould Souilem said.
