Extensive regionalisation, way to standardise Morocco's regional organisation, French expert

Rabat - The extensive regionalisation, launched by HM King Mohammed VI, is a way to standardise Morocco's regional organisation, French Law expert Michel Rousset said in a statement to Radio France International (RFI).

"Based on the innovative principles of Moroccan Sahara autonomy plan, HM King Mohammed VI wants to standardise the regional organisation in a way that gives more autonomy to local authorities, more competences to promote the potential of the region, and encourage people's participation in regional development," underlined the Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Law of Grenoble and professor at the law university and the National School of Administration in Rabat.

Recalling that Morocco has opted for regionalisation since 1971, the French expert said the autonomy initiative for the southern provinces is a "revolutionary" project compared to what has been done.

"The autonomy project is revolutionary since there will be a legislative and fiscal power, a regional council, a parliament, a regional jurisdiction, and all this is so revolutionary compared to the current regionalisation controlled by the central government".
