Morocco's Autonomy initiative caused confusion in Polisario's position'

Laayoune - Morocco's autonomy initiative has caused confusion in Polisario's discourse, which seeks to stir diversion through giving credence to a so-called "intifada", former leading and founding member of the Algerian-backed separatist movement of Polisario, Ahmeddou Ould Souilem, said on Friday.

Ould Souilem, who returned recently to Morocco, told Laayoune local radio station that Polisario, as a political and a social project, is fading away and survives only as a "registered trademark" in the hands of Algeria.

"This registered trademark will remain as long as Algeria wants", he added, noting that Algeria is responsible for the suffering of the Sahrawis populations held against their will in Tindouf camps.

They are detained on the Algerian territory and under the control of Algerian security authorities, he said, adding that the Sahrawis  in the Polisario-run camps live in "pitiful" conditions.

On his belated return to Morocco last July, Ould Souilem explained that he was obliged to stay longer in the camps in order to help the deatined populations in their ordeal.
