PM receives US Congress delegation

Rabat - Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi received, on Tuesday in Rabat, a US Congress delegation led by Senator Jude Gregg.

   The meeting touched on Morocco's territorial integrity, the Palestinian cause and the means to further promote relations between Morocco and the United States, a statement of the Prime Minister’s Office said.

   The Premier praised, on this occasion, the excellent relations between the two countries and the level of bilateral cooperation, recalling the US-Morocco Free Trade Agreement.

   El Fassi also underlined the Kingdom's determination to consolidate and step up bilateral relations in several matters.

   He showcased the large-scale projects and reforms undertaken in Morocco in the economic, social and political fields. He recalled the progress achieved in terms of democracy, human rights and public liberties.

   El Fassi, who underscored the role of the US in maintaining peace in the Middle-East region, pointed to the latest developments at the level of Morocco's territorial integrity, the situation in the Middle-East, and the plight of the Palestinian people.

   The American congressmen, representing the Democrat and the Republican parties, stressed that Morocco is an important leg of their tour.      

   They lauded the major stride made by Morocco in the economic, social and political fields, adding that the north African country represents a model in the region thanks to its economic openness and efforts made to counter terrorism and extremism.
