US donates $270,000 to Morocco to promote meteorological observation

Casablanca - The US has donated 270,000 dollars to Morocco to upgrade its national meteorological observation network.

This donation will enable Morocco to consolidate its means of weather change monitoring in response to the adverse effects of climate changes.

The donation was signed by the State Secretary for Water and the Environment Abdelkébir Zahoud and the US Ambassador Samuel L. Kaplan.

Kaplan said the United States is pleased to make partnership with countries such as Morocco, which take proactive steps to address local and global effects of climate changes.

This project will contribute to improving weather forecasts and enable Morocco to take measures necessary to adapt to the severe drought and the floods that often affect the agriculture sector.

For his part, Zahoud underlined that the Moroccan government is satisfied with the level of the partnership between Morocco and the US, adding that bilateral cooperation in the field of meteorology has always been fruitful and enabled the directorate of national meteorology to develop its potential and share experiences with many U.S. universities and specialized institutions.
