Morocco's trade balance down 10.4% in 2009

Rabat - Morocco's foreign trade revealed in 2009 a deficit of 152.6 billion dirhams, a 10.4% reduction compared to 2008, the Moroccan Office des changes said.

    Figures released by the Office show that, over the past year, goods imports reached 264.4 billion dirhams, that is a drop of 61.6 billion dirhams compared to a year before, while exports fell by 43.9 billion dirhams to stand at 111.8 billion dirhams.

    Except for the industrial gold, all exported products posted a decrease namely semi-finished products (-42.6%), food products (-11.4%), equipment goods (-21.4%) and consumer goods (-2.2%).

    Morocco's foreign trade exchanges involved around 376.3 billion dirhams against 481.9 a year earlier, the Office said, noting that Europe remains Morocco's top commercial partner with 63% of overall exchanges.
